Content & exhibition journey

Versailles Seen from the Sky II is designed as a multi-faceted exploration, combining recent aerial views, historical models, graphic art, photography, and urban planning.
  • Entrance hall
    • First panoramic aerial views of Versailles. An immersive introduction that immediately elevates the visitor, to grasp the symmetry, the main lines of the château, gardens and city.
  • Lower gallery
    • The 1704 relief map: a 16 m² model, made of silk, paper, wood, cardboard, sand, using an ancient technique. Created by enthusiasts, it allows visualization of Versailles in the early 18th century.
    • Unpublished photographs of the château: often taken from the sky or rare viewpoints, these images strengthen the historical and geographical perspective.
  • Upper gallery
    • Visual journey neighborhood by neighborhood. Axonometric graphics created by Théophile Bianciotti help better understand urban organization, natural spaces, architectural diversity and remarkable sites of Versailles.
    • New perspectives: observation of lesser-known buildings, peripheral neighborhoods, green spaces, etc. These recent perspectives bring History and contemporary together.
  • Film “Versailles Seen from the Sky II”
    • Following the success of the first film (over 500,000 views on YouTube), this new installment is screened as part of the exhibition.
What Versailles Seen from the Sky II reveals The exhibition allows you to discover or rediscover Versailles from several angles:
  • Historical heritage and urban planning: the 1704 relief map recalls the projects of Vauban, Louis XIV and the importance of perspective. The topographic and urban structure unfolds, revealing how Versailles has evolved partly in relation to the original main axes.
  • Landscape heritage: gardens, natural spaces, vegetable gardens, groves, avenues, water features… seen from the sky, these elements show the balance between nature and urbanization. The symmetry — dear to Versailles — is perceived as never before, as well as the preservation of green areas.
  • Architectural and social diversity: beyond the château, lesser-known neighborhoods, peripheral areas, modern or heritage buildings – an entire living territory. The exhibition highlights these contrasts.
  • Contemporary perspectives: recent aerial photographs, the film, axonometric drawings… all of this contrasts Versailles yesterday and today, in a reflection on preservation, urban development, aesthetics, local identity.
